TITLE: Building Services Technician-Administration Chicago Office

Position Overview

Special Olympics Illinois is actively recruiting for the role of Building Services Technician. This role serves as a general maintenance administrator for the building and grounds in the Chicago office.  The technician assists with coordinating any major building projects and building/lawn maintenance throughout the year.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Performs minor repairs as needed  
  • Maintains landscaping alterations not provided by vendors including mowing of grass strips, weed control and landscape projects  
  • Maintains housekeeping duties as needed to ensure professional image for the Chicago Office  
  • Paints, remodels and refurbish areas as needed 
  • Maintains and has fleet vehicle serviced  
  • Performs other work related duties as assigned 
Requirements

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Associate's degree with one years’ related experience or high school equivalent with three+ years’ related experience 
  • Physical mobility, moderate work and close visual acuity required 
  • Working computer knowledge and ability to learn computer programs and proprietary software, 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, as well as communication skills, both written and oral. 
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines 
  • Able to work collectively with the Special Olympics Illinois team, current and prospective vendors, and other external constituents 
  • Special Olympics experience preferred; passion for the Special Olympics mission required 
  • Valid driver’s license  

Work Schedule: 

  • Based out of Chicago IL Office  
  • Reports to Director - Administration  
  • Monday through Friday with the ability to work flexible hours on weekends/evening events  
  • Schedule includes occasional travel to Field offices and other venues

  • 5-10 hours per week
  • Independent in-state travel occasionally required, including some overnight and weekend travel as an essential function of position
  • Physical mobility required: must be able to climb stairs, assist in setup and breakdown at events, stand or sit for long periods of time, and load and unload vehicles
  • Medium work required, which involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds; requires a good deal of walking, standing, and/or sitting with some pushing and pulling of arm or leg controls; includes sedentary work
  • Close visual acuity required to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines; operating motor vehicles
  • First Aid/CPR Training and Certification required or willing to obtain within the first six months; must be able and willing to effectively administer First Aid/CPR on-site during events
  • Valid driver’s license and proof of insurance is required
  • Offers of employment are contingent upon clear results of a background check


Pay Range: $22.00-$29.00 hr 



Benefits

2 hours of paid time off earned for every 35 hours worked. Up to 13 days may be carried over annually. 401(k) options for all employees working over 1,000 hours annually.
