Position Overview
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at Phronetik will be a licensed physician-scientist who plays a pivotal role in advancing our research strategy and enabling the responsible use of genetic and genomic testing. Unlike a traditional clinical provider role, this position is focused on leveraging medical expertise to guide research, regulatory, and translational initiatives that support Phronetik’s mission of transforming healthcare through precision medicine.
The CMO will provide medical oversight for genetic and genomic testing programs, ensure adherence to ethical and regulatory standards, and support the integration of genetic counseling as a service. Working in close collaboration with the Chief Science Officer, the CMO will align Phronetik’s medical direction with research priorities, ensuring that innovation and patient-centered values remain at the forefront of all initiatives.
This role will also engage with regulatory agencies, sponsors, academic collaborators, and key opinion leaders to ensure the scientific and medical rigor of our research. The CMO will interpret clinical and genomic data, oversee safety and ethical review processes, and support the development of new testing, counseling, and precision medicine initiatives
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Medical Leadership: Define and lead Phronetik’s medical and research strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and scientific objectives.
- Genomic & Clinical Oversight: Provide medical guidance for genetic and genomic testing services, genetic counseling support, and related research initiatives.
- Research Enablement: Partner with the Chief Science Officer to design, review, and evaluate research protocols, translational studies, and clinical collaborations.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with FDA, CLIA, CAP, and other applicable regulations governing genetic and genomic testing and research.
- Ethical & Safety Oversight: Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, privacy, and ethical conduct across all studies and testing services.
- Collaboration: Serve as a key medical voice in cross-functional teams, ensuring integration of medical, scientific, and technical expertise.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Phronetik to sponsors, collaborators, regulators, and the broader scientific and medical community.
- Thought Leadership: Contribute to publications, presentations, and industry discussions that advance the field of genomics and precision medicine.
- Mentorship: Provide medical leadership and mentorship to scientific, research, and clinical support teams, fostering a culture of innovation and rigor.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Educational Background: MD or DO degree with an active medical license in the United States; MD/PhD with board certification in a relevant specialty strongly preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 10 years of combined clinical and research experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within genomics, biotechnology, or life sciences.
- Genomics Expertise: Strong knowledge of genetics, genomics, molecular diagnostics, and precision medicine.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Proven understanding of clinical research regulations, laboratory oversight, and ethical considerations for genetic/genomic testing.
- Strategic Leadership: Ability to guide Phronetik’s medical vision in collaboration with scientific and business leadership.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
- Collaborative Mindset: Demonstrated success working in cross-disciplinary environments bridging science, medicine, and technology.
- Patient-Centric Values: Strong commitment to ethical standards, transparency, and advancing equitable access to genomic research and testing.
- Eligibility: Must be located within and authorized to work in the United States.
Travel Required
Ability to travel as needed; Potential travel 20% including US and/International.
Must have a valid driver’s license and passport and be able to travel by air and car.

Work Environment
The Chief Medical Officer must be able to commute to our Research Center & National Laboratory (RCNL) in Plano, TX, and work effectively from a variety of locations including Phronetik Offices, customer sites, and / or remotely from a home office.
