Description

The Instructional Designer (ID) designs, develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates online, blended, and web-enhanced courses for adult and traditional learners using sound instructional design practices employing multimedia and other emerging technologies for all learning formats. They bring innovative approaches to technology-mediated curriculum design and have a strong grounding in theoretical foundations for such innovation. The primary responsibility of this position is working with faculty to develop online and blended courses that enhance student learning through engaging digitally- based pedagogy/andragogy. The ID will work closely with subject matter experts to best reach the student audience. The ID provides training to faculty and others on course development processes and best practices for instructional and assessment strategies. The ID also provides direct support to students and instructors in the use of the college’s learning management system.  This is a fully remote position.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Advise subject matter experts, faculty, and instructors to initiate, refine, and implement interactive technology initiatives in the development and enhancement of courses for online, face-to-face, and blended delivery, which will result in improved teaching and learning.
  • Work in conjunction with other Instructional Designers to manage course development and maintenance, applying quality control and assurance.
  • Develop and provide training and support to faculty on curriculum design, incorporating principles of learning theory, using technology in teaching, and modifying teaching methods and curriculum.
  • Set up and maintain course pages in the learning management system, providing faculty and student access.
  • Develop and distribute training and support materials for faculty and students in the learning management system, such as orientations, tutorials, resources pages, etc.
  • Stay current in learning management system upgrades, add-ons, and plug-in improvements to enhance course development and delivery.
  • Prepare required reports, surveys, and evaluation documentation, as directed.
  • Coordinate/lead special projects as assigned.
  • Responsible for ensuring that assigned tasks are completed in compliance with various institutional and regulatory requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required. 
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. 
Requirements
  • Associate degree (Bachelors preferred) in instructional design, instructional technology, education, communication or a related field of study, or 3 years of progressive, related experience.
  • Substantial experience using a learning management system for designing instruction for online learning required (Moodle preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles and best practices to improve student learning and collaborate with faculty to produce effective instructional materials for technology-infused teaching.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards and ability to evaluate and create accessible digital materials; knowledge of UDL principles and experience designing for diverse learners; knowledge of distance ed regulations.
  • Demonstrated fluency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, and other graphics, multimedia, and interactive design      applications.
  • Experience as a teacher, trainer and/or professional development instructor for adult and traditional learners preferred.
  • Literacy in HTML, CSS, and/or SQL Query language preferred.
