Description
The ABA Medical Biller is responsible for accurately processing claims for ABA therapy services, ensuring timely reimbursement from insurance payers, Medicaid, and private clients. This role requires a strong understanding of medical billing, especially in behavioral health and ABA services, including CPT codes, modifiers, and payer-specific policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Submit clean insurance claims electronically and manually for ABA services rendered.
- Verify client authorization eligibility.
- Ensure accuracy in billing codes (CPT codes such as 97151, 97153, 97155, etc.) and modifiers.
- Monitor and manage accounts receivable, including following up on unpaid or denied claims.
- Respond to insurance inquiries and resolve claim denials or rejections.
- Communicate with clinical staff to verify documentation compliance and session accuracy.
- Post payments, adjustments, and denials in the billing system.
- Handle billing-related questions from clients and families.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist in audits and compliance checks related to billing practices.
- Stay up-to-date on payer requirements, Medicaid policies, and ABA billing changes.

Requirements
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 2+ years of medical billing experience, preferably in ABA or behavioral health.
- Knowledge of ABA billing codes, modifiers, and insurance guidelines.
- Familiarity with EHR and billing platforms (e.g., Central Reach)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage deadlines and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of HIPAA and medical billing compliance standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with Medicaid and major commercial payers.
- Certification in medical billing or coding (e.g., CMRS, CPB, CPC).
- Prior experience in an ABA practice or behavioral health setting.
