Description

Guardians of Honor is a small management consulting firm supporting the federal government since 1997 (www.gohnow.com).

GOH is seeking editors with advanced proficiency in technical editing using style guides. You must be familiar with all the elements of the major style guides and be comfortable learning to use a new style guide and editing toolkit within a week. Your primary responsibilities will be to provide copyedits and quality control written evaluations of grant proposals submitted to the United States Department of Education Institution of Education Sciences (IES).

Requirements

Successful candidates will be familiar with one or more of the major style guides and have at least 2 years of prior copyediting experience. GOH Editors will review and copyedit Peer Review summaries and ensure that they adhere to American Medical Association (AMA) style guidelines and additional editorial guidelines established by IES.


Required Areas of Expertise and Experience:

  • Must have access to a computer with reliable highspeed internet, a PDF Reader, and MS Office 2021
  • Must be available during standard business hours to respond to emails, attend status meetings, and communicate with project management
  • Must be available for contract work between the periods of November 2024 to April 2025
  • Must be available for approximately 1.5 days of training two weeks prior to start of project
  • Must be able to reliably meet consecutive deadlines in fast-paced team environment
  • Must be organized, good communicator, detail oriented, and exhibit the highest levels of professionalism
  • Must be able to obtain a moderate level security clearance
  • Must be able to receive and quickly implement feedback
  • Exceptional editing abilities
  • Demonstrated experience editing using one of the major writing style guides

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience editing for peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience editing using AMA style guidelines
  • Experience using the Federal Government guidelines for plain language writing/editing
  • Understanding of the grant proposal merit review process
  • Experience with education, evaluation, and other scientific topics and audiences

Job Division: Educational Research and Grants Management

Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred

Experience: 2 - 4 years of experience directly relevant to the position

Compensation: $32.75/hr
